Description:
A view postulated by the father of Medicine-Hippocrates. According to him, the body contains four humours, Dam (sanguine), Balgham (phlegm), Safra’ (yellow bile), Sawda’ (black bile). For the maintenance of health it is essential that overall effect or combined qualities of the humours are in accordance with the temperament of the individual. Its possible English equivalent is humoral
theory.
